Adamawa state government has been urged to engage youths in sport development, as a tool for promoting peace.
This was disclosed during the kick off of the 2018 maiden edition of Sarkin Matasa cup held at the temporary stadium Wednesday in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
Gotel’s Shareef Alhassan who witnessed the opening ceremony of the championship reports that the match between Doubeli united and karewa united ended 2-2.
This is the official kick off of the 2018 maiden edition of sarkin matasa football championship Wednesday held at the jimeta temporary stadium Yola.
The football championship which is the brain child of Wakili Boya, chairman fufore local government is aimed at promoting the act of sportsmanship among youth in the state and also promotes peace and development.
Wakili Boya who was represented by Shuiabu Babbas , other key stakeholders as well as members of the society came out en mass for the keenly contested match, between doubeli united and karewa united.
At the end of the 90 minute game, it ended up 2-2, as both parties waits to face another opponent from same group A.
Officials of the championship say bringing youth together under one platform like this will help curb youth restiveness in the state.
The maiden edition of sarkin matasa football championship has 16 participating teams, drawn from Adamawa senatorial zone.
The competition is expected to end match 2018.
